Tony Dixon was the Executive Director of the Institute of Directors South Africa from 2003 to 2007 and has considerable board experience. Tony Dixon has specialised in the area of corporate governance and board appraisals in particular. He has conducted numerous Board appraisals in both the private and public sector and is regarded as one of South Africa’s most experienced facilitators in this field.
He is a CA (SA) and spent the first 30 years of his career with Coopers & Lybrand, being Regional Chairman of KwaZulu-Natal from 1984 to 1996 and served on the firms National Executive and Governing Board for a number of years. Before joining the IoD, Tony held a number of executive directorships on listed companies, the largest of which was Guardian National Insurance Company. He has considerable audit committee experience and is currently an Independent Non-Executive Director of three main board companies being Allied Technologies Limited (Altech), Consolidated Infrastructure Group Limited (CIL) and Santova Limited.
Tony is a member of the King Committee on Corporate Governance. He has been a Council Member of the Consultative Advisory Group of the Public Accountants and Auditors Board, an Alternate Director of the Insider Trading Board. Between 1987 / 1999 he was on the Council and an Executive Committee Member of the Natal Rugby Union (Sharks), served briefly on SARFU’s Finance Committee and is currently an honorary Vice President of the NRU.
Tony is a CEDR accredited mediator. (CEDR the UK based Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution is acknowledged as a world leader in its field and its accreditation is internationally recognised.
